The outcomes extended SOU’s winning streak to 15 straight, snapped Tech’s 13-game skein and sent the Raiders (32-15, 15-4 Cascade) to a three-game advantage over the Owls (28-13, 12-7 Cascade) and Eastern Oregon in the six-team standings. Six league games remain. The wild first game saw SOU strand eight runners in the first four innings, and Tech erased a 1-0 deficit when catcher Holly Byerley crushed a three-run homer of Raider ace Miranda Gillaspie in the bottom of the fourth. SOU then scored two runs to pull even in the top of the fifth and tallied four in the eighth for a 7-3 lead. But OIT scored four in the bottom of the inning, including a bases-clearing, game- tying double by Amanda Doherty. The Raiders scored three more in the ninth against Laura Delplanche (16-8), including a two-run home run by Leann Foster. Advertisement Gillaspie (18-5) yielded a two-out, two-run homer by Brandi Paxton prior to striking out Lisa Erwert to record her 13th consecutive win. In Game 2, SOU jumped on OIT hurler Kelsey Madsen for four runs on eight hits through the first two innings. OIT cut the margin in half on a two-run shot by Kristiann Kinsman in the bottom of the fourth, but Raider pitchers Alicia Caudill and Julianne Cree limited the Owls to five hits. Caudill (6-4) picked up the win, and Cree recorded her fifth save, a single-season school record.
