Jesuit topples Klamath Union for 4A crown WILSONVILLE - In a matter of two early second-half minutes, the Jesuit boys soccer team put two goals between itself and Klamath Union. Then the Crusaders added three more to cruise to a 5-0 victory in the championship match of the OSAA/U.S. Bank Class 4A state playoffs at Wilsonville High School. Jesuit, the No. 7-ranked team in USA Today's national poll, finishes 19-0 and has won three straight state titles and 10 in the last 16 years. The Pelicans (15-1-2), Southern Oregon Conference champions and winners of 14 straight entering the final, were floored by the Crusaders' second-half barrage. Senior forward Alex Salazar, the Metro League player of the year, started the scoring by finishing an assist from Andy Howard in the 44th minute. One minute later, Howard converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0. Senior forward Pat Mooney was next to get into the act, scoring goals in the 52nd and 69th minutes. Brian Mullaney knocked home the final tally in the 74th minute. Making its first-ever finals appearance, KU was outshot 18-4. The Pelicans fell 4-1 to Jesuit in the state semifinals last fall.
