Medford school buses are safe, superintendent says Pack up those kids and ship them off to the school bus. Medford School District Superintendent Steve Wisely assures Medford parents that all the school buses on the road today are safe. "We�ll be running safe buses first thing in the morning," Wisely said Monday. An Associated Press story Sunday warned of a defect in an anti-lock brake system found in buses manufactured by Thomas Built Buses Inc. that can cause temporary brake failure at low speeds. After hearing of the problem while on vacation over the weekend, Wisely contacted Laidlaw bus company Monday. Local Laidlaw manager Stewart Hedges informed Wisely that the company checked the brakes of the two Thomas buses the company operates and found that they did not have the type of brake in question. The problem was discovered in June by the brake system�s manufacturer, Bendix of Elyria, Ohio. Wednesday, the parent company of Thomas Built, Freightliner Corp., wrote to hundreds of school districts nationwide, warning them of the potential problem.
