Talent teens injured in collision Two teenage girls briefly were trapped in a Honda that swerved into the path of a dump truck on Eagle Mill Road near Ashland Friday afternoon. The accident on a sharp curve just south of the intersection of Eagle Mill Road and Valley View Road happened about 3:15 p.m. and closed Eagle Mill Road for 45 minutes, Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. A 17-year-old girl from Talent was driving the Honda south with another 17-year-old girl, also of Talent, in the front passenger seat and a 5-year-old boy in the back seat. The car veered into the northbound lane as it rounded the curve and collided with a dump truck driven north by Danny B. May, 47, of the 800 block of West Butler Lane, Ashland, Puckett said. Ashland Fire & Rescue and Jackson County Fire District No. 5 extricated the girls from the crushed car and took them to Rogue Valley Medical Center. Puckett said they had broken bones and other injuries. No update on their condition was available Friday night. The boy in the back seat had only minor injuries and May wasn’t hurt, Puckett said. Ashland and Talent police helped close the roadway while emergency crews worked at the accident scene. It was raining and roads were wet at the time of the accident, Puckett said. Deputies continue to investigate the accident and likely will cite the driver of the Honda, he said.
