The 6-foot senior post erupted for 24 points, seven steals and six rebounds to fuel the fifth-ranked Black Tornado to a 62-58 double-overtime victory over Glencoe at the Nike Interstate Shootout. North Medford (8-1) meets Lebanon for the consolation championship of the Navy (upper) Division at 3 p.m. today. "Mellisa was a dominant force at both ends of the floor," said North Medford coach Tim Karrick, noting that Eastwold shot 8 of 11 from the field. "She made a lot of big plays." One of those big plays came in the second overtime. After Glencoe had scored a three-point play to start the four-minute extra session, Eastwold stole the ball and hit a layup. Seconds later, senior point guard Kailey Bostwick completed her own three-point play, and the Tornado went on an 8-0 run to take control. Advertisement Bostwick finished with 17 points and seven assists, and senior post Michelle Westermann chipped in 11 points, 14 rebounds and four steals for North Medford. The Tornado led 13-7 after one period and 38-31 after three periods but could never shake the pesky Crimson Tide. North helped its cause by forcing 28 turnovers. "Other than Mellisa, we didn’t shoot very well, but we played tough defense and kept hustling the whole way," said Karrick. "Defense is what ultimately won it for us in that second overtime." The junior Towry finished with eight points and 12 boards. Sophomore reserve Elora Grant had 13 points, including South’s lone 3-pointer, and five rebounds.
