He leaves behind a variety of enduring memories in many family and friends’ minds. After fighting cancer occasionally over the last 47 years, it finally won the battle at his home May 27, 2015. Terry was born to Doug and Jeane Hinesly May 6, 1946 in Santa Ana, Calif. In 1952 they made their home in Medford, where Terry continued an adventurous life, along with defeating many medical obstacles. Through active participation in Boy Scouts over the years, Terry was honored to receive the Eagle Scout Award. He also attended the 1963 Boy Scout World Jamboree in Greece, making lifelong friendships. While in the Air Force, late stages of Hodgkin's Disease became a major challenge. His reaction to the meds, his faith, and his attitude pulled him through it. After his marriage to Carolyn (Cari) Ferrell of Klamath Falls, Ore. in 1968, he earned a degree in Economics with a minor in criminology, at Southern Oregon (College) University. Then he joined in the family insurance business for a short time. For more than 25 years, he was a very successful volunteer Probation Officer with Jackson County’s Project Misdemeanant (now known as Jackson County Community Corrections). A longtime interest in various types of car racing led him to race sports cars. Being very active in the local Siskiyou Sports Car Club, he participated in Solo events and also wheel-to-wheel races over the years. After a Siberian Husky came into his life, raising, training, and racing sled dogs led him to compete in Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, making it to Nome in 1990. He continued in this sport by being a judge or race marshal for many races around the U.S.A., Australia, Canada, and Russia. Survivors, besides his wife include his sister, Connie (Bob) Eaton; nephews, Todd (Barbara) Higinbotham, Ontario, Ore. and Les (Myra) Higinbotham, Eagle Point; niece, Jeanne (Donnie) Eaton-Hood, Wisc.; stepmother, Pauly Hinesly (Phoenix); stepsister, Kay Bright (Medford); and her daughter, Briana Neet (Tigard). Also, extended family, including brother, Daniel, aka. Seong-Riong, (Kim) Kang, Placentia, Calif., formerly of South Korea. At Terry’s request, a Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Asante Hospice, 2960 Doctors Park Drive, Medford, OR 97504. Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
