On game shows such as "The Price is Right" and "Let's Make a Deal," how do the winners get their big prizes home, such as new cars, boats, etc.? — Jerry,  via dropped-off note   We're fond of schadenfreude here at Since You Asked headquarters, so the thought of game-show winners cramming bedroom sets in the hatch of their new Honda Fit elicits a smirk. But that thought is fiction, according to Krista Ostensen Osche of "Wheel of Fortune." "They don't go home with the prizes that day," she said.  "We try to source the prizes locally." Sourcing locally means that shiny new Mustang on the small screen isn't always the same car that ends up on the winner's driveway. She explained that winners don't collect their prizes until after the show airs, which can take weeks or months. That made sense, even though we hadn't considered it before — a convertible in the driveway prior to airtime would undo a nondisclosure agreement rather quickly. Similarly, a representative at another game show explained that their show works with retailers and dealerships near the contestant's area to make it easy to receive the large prizes, specifically boats, RVs and cars. How the prize is delivered takes into consideration a lot of variables, such as the prize's size and nearest dealer.  On top of that, the contestant must meet tax and eligibility requirements before the winner can even collect the prize, which includes paying taxes and license fees.
