[Douglas Interagency Narcotics Taskforce photo] A Medford man is among two suspects facing felony drug charges after police say they found five pounds of methamphetamine during a Douglas County traffic stop. Luis Pacheco Lopez, 40, of Medford, and Daniel Alberto Velarde Medrano, 22, of Huntington Park, California, each face felony counts of delivering and possessing methamphetamine stemming from a Thursday evening traffic stop outside the Burger King in Canyonville, according to a release issued by the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team and documents filed in Douglas County Circuit Court. A witness cooperating with police allegedly arranged with for a multi-pound drug deal with Medrano in Canyonville, according to an affidavit filed by police in the two suspects’ cases. Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, Medrano and Lopez arrived at the fast food parking lot in a gray Acura for the handoff. Police took the two men into custody and searched the vehicle. During a search of the Acura, K9 “Trapper” reportedly helped police locate a gray backpack containing 5.71 pounds of a substance believed to be methamphetamine in several plastic bags. As of Monday morning, Lopez and Medrano were each held in the Douglas County Jail on $500,000 bail listed under the names Luis Pacheco-Lopez and Daniel Velarde-Medrano. Madrano’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, and no upcoming court dates are yet scheduled for Lopez.
