Is there anyplace that recycles these things? — Ralph W., Eagle Point They are nice, aren't they, Ralph? You could reuse them, we suppose. It could be a heck of an art project, something you could display in your home. Now, if that idea isn't to your liking — and we can't imagine why not — we do have a more practical answer for you. Based on a few calls we made, we came up with what we consider the best and easiest option for recycling those tanks in the area. If there were any we missed that provide similar ease of service, it was accidental. Allied Environmental Services, at 8266 13th St. in White City, will take the tanks for 50 cents a can, according to site officials. We found a few other spots around the area that would also take them, but you'd either need to cut the tanks in half somehow or remove the valves before you did it. For simple disposal, you can take it to the Ashland Recology Transfer station, located at 3000 Valley View Road — a bit of a drive from Eagle Point, but there it is. Propane tanks that are five gallons or greater in size cost $5.25 to dispose of. Recology officials say the smaller ones can be taken at no charge. Just make sure they're empty. Finally, Rogue Disposal will take the tanks on hazardous waste drop-off days, but they only happen once a year, and the next one isn't until May. —Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
