PREP FB: Livingston, Brown lead EP past Axe By Mail Tribune staff Oct 21, 2022 11:39 PM A A EUGENE — Quarterback Bryton Livingston threw for three touchdowns and ran for another and running back David Brown scored three TDs on the ground as Eagle Point ripped off 49 unanswered points in a 49-3 win over South Eugene on Friday night. The win allowed the Eagles to finish no worse than in a tie for second place in the Midwestern League. Eagle Point (6-2, 5-1 MWL) hosts third-place Springfield (5-3, 4-2) next Friday night to close out the regular season. Eagle Point actually fell behind South Eugene (1-7, 0-6) — which was making its return to the field after forfeiting a Week 7 matchup with Thurston due to numerous injuries — after the Axe hit a 43-yard field goal. That’s when the Eagles got to work. Livingston’s 1-yard touchdown run was sandwiched in between a pair of TD passes from the junior quarterback to running back Kaden Huff from 30 and 14 yards out. Brown, Class 5A’s leading rusher, capped the Eagles’ big first half with touchdown runs of 24 and 7 yards to give his team a 35-3 lead going into the break. He added a third score in the third quarter. Brown finished with 151 yards on 15 carries, while Livingston — who added a third touchdown pass to Adan Quintero in the fourth quarter — was 8-of-17 for 136 yards. Huff and Quintero both had 42 yards receiving, while Alexander Meadows finished with a pair of receptions for 43 yards. The Cavemen (5-3, 3-3 SCFC) broke through in the second quarter with a goal-line touchdown run by senior running back Trevor Reeves, who rushed for 33 yards on 12 carries. Senior Aiden Dietz led Grants Pass in receiving with two catches for 41 yards. Quarterback Brock Thomas passed for six touchdowns and ran for two more for the Irish (8-0, 6-0). With the score tied 7-all and about 2 1/2 minutes remaining in regulation, the Comets (2-6, 1-5 MWL) had a chance to take the lead but Spencer Bramucci’s 28-yard field goal attempt was blocked, allowing the Lancers to take over. Churchill (3-5, 3-3) was able to march into Comets territory but Crater’s defense came up with a clutch sack and fumble recovery with 13 seconds left to force the extra session. Crater started out with the ball in overtime but was unable to do anything with their lone possession, and Churchill used its run game to get down the field before capping their drive with a 10-yard, game-winning touchdown run by quarterback Pete Pennington. Following a scoreless first half, Churchill capitalized on a Crater fumble at midfield, and finished the drive with a Pennington 4-yard TD run for a 7-0 lead. The Comets knotted the score in the fourth quarter when quarterback Ben Higginson got his team across midfield by ripping off a 28-yard keeper. The sophomore’s big run set up his own 5-yard touchdown, when he kept the ball himself, wrapping around the right side and scampering into the end zone. Higginson 5 run (Bramucci kick) CH — Pennington 10 run NORTH BEND 33, ASHLAND 27, OT: At North Bend, Cole Hansen’s 2-yard rushing touchdown in overtime capped North Bend’s furious second-half comeback to claim the Big Sky Conference win over Ashland. The Grizzlies (1-7, 0-5 Big Sky) tied the game at 27-all with 52 seconds left in regulation on Jojo Harrower’s 1-yard touchdown run and subsequent two-point conversion pass to Noah Shrader. Ashland jumped out to a 19-0 lead thanks to a pair of Gavin White touchdown runs and Hank Stringer’s pick-6 early in the second quarter before North Bend (4-4, 3-2) scored 27 unanswered to go ahead 27-19 midway through the fourth. Harrower finished 19-for-32 for 202 yards and a pair of interceptions. White carried the ball 23 times for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while receiver Caden Negra caught seven passes for 77 yards. On the second play of the Pirates’ first possession in the second half, Everhart connected with Selden for an over-the-shoulder catch down the right sideline to slice Lakeview’s lead to 21-6. Everhart finished 13-for-31 for 130 yards for the Pirates (0-8, 0-8 FWL). With the win, the Honkers improved to 4-4 overall and in FWL play.
