Medford's 750-foot parking rule remains Downtown drivers beware: The 750-foot parking rule is still in effect. People who park on downtown streets still must move their car 750 feet, or about three blocks, when the time expires in the zone they are parked in. "We've had people coming into our office carrying their citations and I tell them, 'The new rule is not in effect yet,' " said Linda Beauchamp, administrative assistant for the Medford Urban Renewal Agency. The urban renewal board is considering a new parking rule that would allow downtown drivers to move their car one block instead of 750 feet. The change is to make the rule easier to understand and violators easier to track. On Jan. 8, the urban renewal board considered the new rule but sent it back to the six-member parking committee for revisions. The committee is made up of Beauchamp and downtown merchants, including a Craterian Theater representative, Rogue Community College students and staff, and a representative from Diamond Parking, which enforces the city's parking laws. Beauchamp met with the city attorney last week to talk about the wording of the new rule. She also collected feedback from parking committee members. The urban renewal board will consider the changes during the Jan. 22 meeting. If approved, a new parking rule would go to the Medford City Council and would take effect for a 90-day trial period. "If it's not working properly, we may revert back to the old rule," Beauchamp said.
