Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 24, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 24, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Aug. 24, 1915 HORNBROOK PREPARES FOR DRY OREGON According to reports, the interests back of the construction of a bonded warehouse at Hornbrook, Calif., have the names of 380,000 users of spiritous, malt and intoxicating liquors in the states of Oregon and Washington. When the two states go "dry" next January, the warehouse will be ready for business and prepared to slack the thirst of the thirsty by mail and express. the law permits the purchase of two dozen quarts of beer and two quarts of spiritous liquor monthly per family, estimated to be twice as much as the average drinker uses at the present time. The work of securing the names of the drinkers has been under way since the last election, is alphabetically arranged, and tabulates the drinking proclivities of each. Another warehouse will be built on the Nevada state line to keep the inhabitants of eastern Oregon from suffering. BROTHER SLAYS BROTHER FOR DEER Charles Young returned Monday from a short trip to the Klamath Lake Springs, and while away was called to serve on a coroner's jury to investigate the shooting of a man by the name of Hoover for a deer by his own brother. The two brothers and a companion were hunting, one brother and the companion being on one side of a creek, and were waiting for the other. A shot was fired at a movement in the brush and a bullet struck the brother in the spinal column, plowing upward through the lungs, causing instant death. The coroner's jury returned a verdict of "accidental death." This is the second accident in Klamath County this year due to carelessness. The first occurred a day before the opening of the deer season, when a hunter seated on a log was shot in the thigh for a deer. The shooter was never found. EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY DECLARED ILLEGAL MONOPOLY BUFFALO, N.Y., Aug. 24 — The Eastman Kodak Company of Rochester is a monopoly in restraint of trade, in violation of the Sherman anti-trust law, according to a decision handed down here late today by Judge John R. Hazel of the United States district court. The decision grants the defendant company an opportunity to present a plan "for the abrogation of the illegal monopoly" on the first day of the November term.
