'Pregnancy' call emerges at trial 13-year-old aided police investigation of mother in forced sex-for-drugs case By Chris Bristol Jurors listened Friday to a taped phone call between a 13-year-old girl and her mother, who is on trial for allegedly letting three men have sex with the girl during a crack-smoking party last summer. "I think I might be pregnant," the girl told her mother, Lynda Darlene Hill. Medford police were taping the call (and the girl wasn't pregnant), but Hill didn't know it. Hill's response: "Oh no." The phone call was among the most damaging evidence presented by the prosecution Friday. Hill, 39, and three men are on trial in a Jackson County courtroom on charges including rape and sodomy. The trial will resume Monday, when cross-examination is expected to begin. On Thursday, the girl testified in graphic detail of multiple sexual encounters at her mother's east Medford apartment involving two of the male defendants, 30-year-old Lamar Esquire McKenzie and his uncle, 39-year-old Johnny "JC" Carter. She said her mother knew she was alone with McKenzie in a back bedroom, interrupting them at one point in mid-act only to shoo out her 11-year-old kid sister. On Friday the girl testified that her semi-drunk mother later cajoled her into having sex with the third man, 32-year-old Anthony Dewayne Smith. She said her mother was present the entire time and even stopped her at one point to give an oral-sex demonstration. The girl also testified that before the encounter began, her mother told her to put on a G-string panty and a negligee-style teal robe. Smith's presence at the party is not in dispute. Jurors have already seen a photo taken during the party showing Smith, clad only in underwear, sitting on a couch next to the girl, who is wearing the robe and nothing else. Carter is also not disputing that he was at the party -- only that he didn't have sex with the girl. But McKenzie has claimed he was not there. On Friday, members of his family, including his mother and father, testified that he was visiting them in Oakland, Calif., during the time the party allegedly occurred. That testimony was flatly contradicted, however, by McKenzie's own words. In a statement to police taped shortly after his arrest, McKenzie placed himself and the other two male defendants at the party. Although he denied having sex with the girl, he said others did. "It was like a big orgy in there," McKenzie said in his taped statement. "It was like sitting around, waitin' for your turn." Also on Friday, jurors listened to a taped statement made by Hill after her arrest. She told detectives she was drinking a lot that night and tends to black out. "A lot of crazy things go on, but I know deep in my heart ... I would never allow something like that," Hill said. "But it could have happened," Detective Tim Doney pressed. "You just don't remember, right?" "Yeah," Hill replied, "It could have happened." Hill is not expected to testify. Her attorney said in opening statements that Hill was too drunk to remember what happened and won't call her daughter a liar without first hearing the evidence. Just before trial recessed for the weekend, the girl identified all three male defendants where they sat in court and said she was "beyond 100 percent" sure they were the ones. She said she felt somewhat jilted by McKenzie, who was allegedly in a hurry the next morning to catch a bus to Oakland. "He said he would say goodbye in the morning before he left," the girl testified. "But he never did."
