Merlin was born March 19, 1930 in Angwin, Calif. to Elmer and Pearl Fjarli. He moved to Medford in 1943. Merlin attended Rogue Valley Adventist Academy and graduated from Laurelwood Academy in Gaston, Ore. Merlin had a passion for India, building schools and churches there for the untouchables. In years past Merlin raced cars at the local speedway and still enjoyed watching Nascar. In recent years Merlin's passion turned to spreading the good news of Jesus' soon return, and built a local Christian radio station, KFJL 1400 a.m. Merlin started and succeeded at several businesses, Southern Oregon Wholesale, The Masher, Big Toe Autowreckers and Southern Oregon Builders. Merlin leaves behind his wife, Jo Ann Bratcher Fjarli of 65 plus years. He had four children, Waynette Fjarli, Clint (Lola) Fjarli, Calvin Fjarli, Bruce (Jacki) Fjarli; six grandchildren, Holly, Rachel, Ceisha, Brian, Cameron and Caleb; as well as twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Calvin in 1972 and his grandson, Brian in 2014. Merlin is also survived by his brother, Delmer Fjarli and sister, Elmina Johnson. Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday October 16, 2014 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Medford Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1900 Greenwood St., Medford, OR. 97504. Donations may be made to the Rogue Valley Adventist Academy Worthy Student Fund.
