Cracks in old bridge cause truck restrictions Cracks in an old Interstate 5 bridge will result in restrictions on truck traffic on a portion of the West Coast�s major north-south artery, beginning today. Oregon Department of Transportation engineers have determined that fatigue cracks in the Fords Bridge about two mile north of Canyonville warrant restricting vehicle load weights until the bridge can be repaired. Load weight restrictions will go into effect at noon today on Interstate 5 at Fords Bridge, located at mile marker 101.54. ODOT announced the restrictions will be in effect until necessary repairs are completed � probably about a month. Loads exceeding 80,000 gross combination weight will be prohibited, beginning at noon today. Restrictions going into effect Tuesday include: Loads exceeding 64,000 gross combination weight are prohibited. Allowed are tri-axle weights up to 36,000 pounds, tandem-axle weights up to 27,000 pounds and solo vehicle weights up to 44,000 pounds. All wide loads and loads over 80,000 pounds are prohibited from using both the bridge and the detours. For information on detour routes, call ODOT at 800-977-6368.
