Members of the department’s gang and street drugs unit served a search warrant in the 1500 block of Yucca Street around 1 p.m. and found evidence of possession, packaging and sale of crack cocaine, Lt. Tim George said. Officers also found two guns at the house, he said. The home’s resident, Marty Dupree Hilliard, 28, was driving nearby when police stopped and arrested him, George said. Hilliard faces charges of manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possessing and delivering crack cocaine, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and driving with a suspended license. He was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on $48,000 bail. Police have seen an increase recently in the use of cocaine in both powder and crack forms, George said. Police found only a small amount of crack Wednesday, along with repackaging materials and evidence of sales, George said. "We’re glad to be able to make a case on him because he was near a school and had weapons," George said. Hilliard also has a lengthy criminal record with numerous drug, weapon, theft and other convictions, Jackson County Circuit Court records show.
