Freshman Christian Camacho assisted on the Pirates’ first two goals and scored a late one himself to guide Phoenix past host Mazama, 5-0. Despite losing to Skyline leader Henley last week, the Pirates (9-3, 7-2 Skyline), who sit in the No. 2 spot, can still capture a co-conference championship by beating the Hornets on Thursday in a battle of two top-10-ranked squads. “I hope we’re up for the task of taking care of business,” said Phoenix coach Dennis Flenner. “It’s the main event and it should be a good one.” The Pirates’ Fernando Rodriguez and Isai Espania scored in the second and fifth minutes, respectively, before Danny Uribe scored on a pass from Sam Macias to inflate Phoenix’s lead to 3-0 at the nine-minute mark. Jesus Sixtos also scored on a pass from Rosendo Juarez-Flores and Carlos Camacho assisted his brother, Christian, in the 78th minute. Pirates goalkeeper Geovanni Cook needed to make just one save to preserve the shutout. Girls Soccer MAZAMA 3, PHOENIX 0: At Talent, Phoenix (1-10-1, 0-9 Skyline Conference) held Mazama in check in the first half but the Vikings scored in the 55th minute to get all they would need to get the victory at Colver Field.
