Butte Falls rolls past Coug boys PROSPECT -- The Butte Falls boys basketball team a turned a rivalry game into a rout on Tuesday. The Loggers led by only four points after the first period but turned up the heat and pulled away for a 62-34 Skyline A League win over Prospect. "We stunk tonight," Prospect coach Mike Gordon said. "We couldn't execute our offense or do anything right. We must have turned the ball over about 30 times." Butte Falls held a 28-18 lead at the break and then cranked things up in the third quarter. Dusty Harrington outscored the Cougars by himself in the period with nine points compared to just seven for Prospect. Harrington finished with 18 points to lead the Loggers. "He (Harrington) doesn't force anything," said Gordon. "He plays under control and didn't turn the ball over much tonight." The Loggers made 23 trips to the foul line, connecting on 13, while the Cougars managed only 3-of-5. Travis Smeltz added 11 points for the Loggers while Zach Gordon paced Prospect with 18. Girls PROSPECT 51, BUTTE FALLS 37 -- At Prospect, Kary Lenderman scored seven of her 11 points in the first quarter as Prospect jumped to 14-2 and 16-4 leads. The Cougars (8-3, 3-0 Skyline A Southern) extended their advantage to 32-12 at the half. Butte Falls (4-8, 2-1) fought back to within 10 points early in the fourth quarter before the Cougars salted the win away by hitting 5-of-8 free throws. Jessica Kraemer added 11 points for Prospect, which finished second in the Southern Division last year with a 10-2 mark.
