Suspect in coastal murder appears in court; Bowen is also accused of a second attack GOLD BEACH - A Crescent City, Calif., man was arraigned Friday on charges he murdered a 76-year-old Brookings man and attacked a 38-year-old Harbor woman in their homes last weekend. Gregory Allen Bowen, 42, was arrested Thursday in Cave Junction after deputies on a stakeout stopped his car as it drove away from the house of a friend, said Josephine County Sheriff's Department detective Sgt. Ron Goodpasture. Bowen was taken to Gold Beach, where he was held without bail following his arraignment in Curry County Circuit Court, said District Attorney Charlie Steak. Bowen was arraigned on charges of murder in the Dec. 30 shooting of Don Palmer Christiansen, who was found shot dead in his home last Sunday, and kidnapping, assault, burglary and menacing in the Dec. 29 attack on the woman in her home, Steak said. Bowen also faces an old drunken driving charge, and another for failing to appear in court to be arraigned on the drunken driving charge, Steak said. The charges will be presented to a grand jury next Thursday. Lloyd T. Henry, 48, whose home Bowen was staying in, was arrested on a charge of violating his probation on a drunken driving conviction. Goodpasture said it appeared Henry was not aware Bowen was sought in the slaying.
