Photo by Bob Pennell Grand opening Silica, wood pulp and cement are mixed in a cement slurry, center, and pressed into home siding at the Certainteed plant in White City. The plant began production in August and celebrated its grand opening Tuesday. The company, based in Valley Forge, Pa., is the nation's leading manufacturer of vinyl siding, PVC pipe and asphalt roofing and is among the leaders in insulation. The White City plant, which employs about 50 people, manufactures house siding from a material the company calls fibercement _ a mixture that looks like wood but lasts longer.
