COLLEGE BASEBALL Beavers' offense shines in win over Portland Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 23, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted Mar. 23, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News PORTLAND — Kyle Nobach drove in three runs, Christian Donahue recorded three hits and Jack Anderson doubled twice to send third-ranked Oregon State to a 13-6 win over Portland Tuesday at Joe Etzel Field. Nobach finished with two hits in four at-bats, driving in his first two runs on a single in the Beavers’ three-run first inning. The junior has driven in 11 this season. Donahue, meanwhile, extended his hit streak to six games with a 3-for-6 night, singling twice and tripling once. He has three triples during the streak, which has seen him go 12-for-24. Anderson rounded out the Beavers’ offensive highlights by doubling in both the first and fourth innings, driving in runs each time. Nick Madrigal and Trever Morrison each tallied two hits for the Beavers, who finished with 14 on the night. The win was Oregon State’s fourth straight and pushed the Beavers’ record to 16-2 on the year. Portland, meanwhile, dropped to 11-9. The win also extended Oregon State’s win streak to 23 straight over the Pilots, and 12 straight here. Bryce Fehmel made his first career start for the Beavers, going three innings to pick up his fifth win of the season. The freshman allowed one run and three hits to go along with five strikeouts. Scotland Church worked the game’s final three innings, with three strikeouts and a walk for his first save of the season. Portland’s Cole Doherty started, allowing six hits and six runs — all with two outs — in two innings. He took the loss to drop to 1-2 on the year. OSU jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead thanks to two RBIs by Nobach and one by Anderson, then made it 6-0 in the second after a double by KJ Harrison and a two-run error by Portland. The Beavers found themselves up 10-1 and 12-3 before Portland pulled to within six with a three-run sixth. Oregon State returns to Pac-12 Conference action at 7 p.m. Thursday at California.
