Attempted murder, arson defendant likely to seek deal The first of two California teens charged as adults in a Medford attempted murder and arson case has canceled his trial and is expected to accept a plea bargain soon, Jackson County prosecutors say. Bradley Chance Oliver, 17, and two accomplices are accused of setting a fire on the porch of a duplex on Cottage Street in Medford on Jan. 5. The fire was part of an alleged attempt to murder Russell Sewell, who was living in the home, according to Deputy District Attorney Michelle Pauly. A grand jury later indicted Oliver, Kyle Irvin Wayne Jones, 16, and Lee Leon Tyrone Ollison, 24, each with a single count of attempted aggravated murder, and eight counts of first-degree arson. Ollison pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree arson on May 17. He received two 90-month sentences from Jackson Count Circuit Court Judge Ray White, with the sentences running concurrently. Pauly declined to discuss Oliver's pending plea agreement Monday. Jones' trial is slated for Aug. 24, she said. The fire was reported at about 1:40 a.m. Jan. 5, at a duplex in the 100 block of Cottage Street. Firefighters arrived to find the front porch of a home in flames and quickly quelled the blaze. Investigators from the Medford police and fire departments determined that the fire, which damaged the porch and furniture on the porch, had been set intentionally. Witnesses reported that a green four-door Subaru with a Washington license plate was seen leaving the area. A patrol officer spotted and stopped the vehicle in the 500 block of South Oakdale Avenue the day after the fire and several people in the car were interviewed. Ollison, of Wilsonville, and Oliver and Jones, of Smith River, Calif., were arrested and charged. Attempted aggravated murder is a Measure 11 charge, which carries a mandatory prison sentence of 10 years. Oregon law allows juveniles to be charged as adults for Measure 11 charges. Oliver was taken to the Jackson County Jail where he remains. Jones was initially housed in the adult jail, but was later taken to a juvenile facility so he could attend school, Pauly said.
