The duo moved into today’s semifinals with a hard-fought 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory over North Salem’s Tyler Hollingsworth and Patrick Wilhelm under the beating sun at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. Tyler Wilson was not as fortunate. The No. 3-seeded singles player from North Medford dropped his quarterfinal match against unseeded Ric Mortera of Jesuit. After opening the tournament with two gutsy three-set victories, Wilson lost 6-2, 6-0 and was the only top-four singles seed to not advance to the semifinals. The sixth-seeded pair of Kevin Spears and Tyler Coke from Ashland also received an early exit. After earning a tough 7-5, 7-5 first round victory, they lost 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 16 to unseeded Tyrel Love and Pat Wurtz of Bend. Advertisement Zaslow and Schleining were determined not to suffer the same fate. The duo won all three of their matches in straight sets, though they faced a challenge from Hollingsworth and Wilhelm in the quarterfinals. Neither team was able to break serve and headed into a 12-point, win-by-two tiebreaker after the North Salem doubles team knotted the first set at 6-all by serving to an add-in victory in the 12th game. The tiebreaker was just as close. The Vikings’ duo jumped out to 2-0, 5-2 and 6-4 leads, but Zaslow and Schleining battled back to a 6-6 tie and eventually grab the lead for good at 9-8. "We knew that if we kept our heads, we could pull it out," Zaslow said after he and Schleining sealed the match with a 6-4 edge in the second set. The right-handed Zaslow and left-handed Schleining will face the No. 3-seeded pair of Phalkun Mam and Charles Tran of McKay in the semifinals. North Medford’s Mateo Mengis and Clint Russell also played on to see another day. The Black Tornado duo dropped its opening-round match but fought into the consolation semifinals with two pro-set victories of 8-2 and 8-6. Their triumphs pushed North Medford into 10th place in the team standings with five points. Jesuit and West Linn are tied for first with 10 points while Ashland, Beaverton and McKay sit in third with 8 points. Friday’s 4A Boys Results SINGLES QUARTERFINALS — (1) Brett Joelson, Westview, d.
