Bulldog boxers fare well in two tournaments OCEAN SHORES, Wash. - The Bulldog Boxing Club took its show on the road over the past weekend and flexed its muscle last weekend in two different tournaments. Enrique Gallegos pulled off a major upset, defeating second-ranked Rondale Mason in a four-round decision in the welterweight division at the Ocean Shores Casino Show Saturday. Mason was representing the all-army team from Fort Carson, Colo. "That was a huge win," said Bulldog trainer Jim Pedrojetti, "the biggest win he's had at the senior level." In the computer scoring system used, Gallegos defeated Mason with an enormous, 42-19 edge. Also Saturday, Mike Wilson of the Bulldogs stopped Brian Torewski of Tacoma, Wash., in a four-round decision in the finals of the superheavyweight division. Fransua Moncada of the Bulldogs fell to Mike Alvarez in the finals of 19-year-old, 112-pound division. Alvarez peppered Moncada with numerous body blows, and the fight was stopped in the second round. On Sunday, in the Ray Tavares Memorial Boxing Show in Reno, Nev., Sky Diamond defeated Caleb Bronan of Susanville, Calif., in a three-round decision in the 9-10-year-old, 55-pound division final. The match was voted the best of the show. Also on the card, Junior Rios knocked out Mike Rodriguez of Las Vegas with a left hook in the first round to win the 15-16-year-old, 132-pound division. Javier Torres took the 13-14-year-old, 132-pound division by defeating Mike Loe from Carson City, Nev., while Emanuel Gutierrez beat Joe Sapienza from Reno in the finals of the 15-16-year-old, 112-pound division.
