Human remains found near Provolt were Medford man's Thursday Feb 9, 2017 at 7:56 PM Feb 9, 2017 at 7:56 PM Local report GRANTS PASS — Skeletal remains found in the woods southeast of Grants Pass have been identified as Chase Cook of Medford, Oregon State Police said Thursday night. Cook was 22 when last seen June 23, 2012. Two hikers found the remains Tuesday southeast of Grants Pass, according to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office. Investigators confirmed the remains had been there a long time, and OSP found no evidence of foul play. Evidence collected at the scene points to suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to OSP. Cook's remains were found less than a mile away from where investigators believed Cook's pickup had been driving, though the vehicle was never located.
