North Bend ends Souths Season NORTH BEND It was just too much Amanda Larsen for the South Medford volleyball team on Wednesday. The Panthers, after easing by St. Helens on Monday in a first round game, received a rude welcoming by Larsen and the rest of her North Bend teammates, dropping a 15-6, 15-10 contest to the Bulldogs. Larsen, a 5-foot-8 senior all-league outside hitter, roughed up the Panthers with 12 kills and was all over the court as North Bend, the No. 3 team out of the Midwestern League, advanced to play St. Marys High of Portland. South Medford, the fourth seed from the Southern Oregon Conference, also hurt its own cause with seven service errors. "We had just too many errors to beat a good team tonight," said South Medford coach Jerry Hagstrom. "We had to play our best game to beat a team like this on the road and we didnt do that." North Bend dominated the opener, jumping out 7-1 lead. The margin grew to 11-2 before South Medford slowly creeped back into the match. Megan Shanahan recorded an ace and a kill while Amber Hunt added two more service aces to cut the Panthers deficit to 11-6. That was as close as they would get, however, as the Bulldogs picked up back-to-back kills by Larsen to close out the game. Game 2, opened with the Panthers showing some life while racing out to a 6-1 lead behind the strong net play of Crystal Glover. Larsen came back down to earth a little with erratic play at the net but she quickly redeemed herself with a kill to turn the tide. The Bulldogs climbed to within 8-5 when Kellie Thomas picked up two kills to extend the lead to 10-7 before the bottom dropped out for South Medford. Larsen closed out the Panthers season with two blocks at the net and two kills. Glover led the Panthers with six kills and 13 digs while Thomas had 4 kills and two blocks. Teammate Karla Zenz added four kills. Girls Soccer HIDDEN VALLEY 2, HENLEY 1 At Klamath Falls, Gina Anderson rallied the Mustangs from a 1-0 deficit with two second-half goals to lift Hidden Valley into the state playoffs. After a scoreless first half, Henleys Becky Schwartz authored the games first goal as she broke free from the pack and bounced a shot past Mustang goalie Sheena Gannon. Anderson tied the game on a slightly awkward goal, using her body to deflect a direct kick by Kim Hill at the 60th minute. Anderson tacked on the game-winner two minutes later as she found an opening in the middle of the field and slipped a shot into the net from 6-yards out.
