Yes, Christmas has a larger meaning than just buying gifts, but when was the last time you Scrooged somebody and left their hands empty on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Hmmmm? So go out and shop, man — time’s a wastin’. We asked: "Are you able to stick to a budget when it comes to holiday shopping and spending?" Advertisement After you read through the answers from our Web readers, check out our new question, which pertains to people commenting on a proposed sex-ed curriculum in Medford schools. "I am single and live alone. I can barely afford my living expenses and gifts for any type of celebration, be it a birthday or Christmas, place a burden on people of low income" — Ronnie, Cyberspace "Yes, I will be able to stick to my holiday budget when it comes to spending because I shop at WAL-MART!" — Kendell Brooke, Cyberspace Almost 9 years (ago) we made a decision to no longer participate in Christmas shopping. We celebrate Christmas for the real reason, the birth of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. We now enjoy Christmas with peace and joy and attend our Church service. How sad that the world has made Christmas so secular. I suggest more people should try it and really participate in "The reason for the season." — D. Fletcher, Cyberspace Absolutely. I usually shop through the year (starting with after-Christmas sales) and have all my Christmas shopping done by July. The holidays are a busy time to spend with friends and family and to be "active in the Spirit". I shop early (and sales) so that I can enjoy the holidays, financially (calm) and otherwise, rather than be burdened with stress and months of after-debt. I also avoid impulse buying which can ruin good intention. Budgeting isn't easy but with planning, like anything, it can happen. — Heather S. Hoeber, Medford This week’s question Sex. Today, there’s a brouhaha over a proposed Medford School District sexual-education curriculum that a prominent Rogue Valley pastor says is over the top. People are commenting on it, too.
