Manoah Martin Hall, 38, pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree arson in Jackson County Circuit Court. The pleas stem from fires reported at 1502 Thomas Road on May 23, 2012, and 932 Stewart Ave., on Feb. 26, 2013. Hall also pleaded guilty to delivery of methamphetamine, based on evidence found at his home when police searched it. Charges he started fires at 1479 Orchard Home Drive, 1704 W. Main St. and 1407 Dakota Ave. were dismissed. Judge Lorenzo Mejia sentenced Hall to 40 months in prison, followed by three years of post-prison supervision upon his release. Hall must also pay almost $139,000 in restitution. Body type J: In a statement to Mejia, a teary-eyed Hall said he hopes to use his time in prison to better himself. "I've made a mistake. I've made many mistakes in my life," Hall said, adding he wants to be a better father to his daughter when he is released. "This has been quite an experience the last six months. I've learned a lot about myself and about the changes that I need to make." Hall was arrested in March, about two and a half years after a string of arsons in west Medford started in August 2011. During that stretch, fires popped up in vegetation, dumpsters and vacant houses on Maple Park Drive, West 11th Street, West Ninth Street, Thomas Road, Edgemont Street, West Jackson Street, West Main Street, Columbus Avenue, Ross Lane, Stewart Avenue, West Fourth Street, Prune Street, Chestnut Street and South Peach Street. Medford police have said Hall posted videos of some of the fires on YouTube before firefighters arrived on scene to extinguish the flames. “Ultimately, witnesses placed (Hall) at the scene of numerous fires,” said deputy district attorney Nick Geil. “He was frequently there before law enforcement or fire were able to respond. His DNA was found at the scene of one of the fires.” Geil added later he was pleased with the case’s outcome, as it held Hall accountable for his actions. Hall’s public defender Alyssa Bartholomew said the sentence was in Hall’s best interest “I think the resolution that occurred was appropriate,” Bartholomew said. Ralph Sartain, fire inspector for Medford Fire-Rescue, said he is hopeful Hall will seek help during his incarceration.
