Cavemen get back on track EAGLE POINT � Parker Lane and Brandon Hamada proved to be the difference makers for Grants Pass against Eagle Point in Southern Oregon Conference football Friday at Eagle Stadium. Lane and Hamada each scored a pair of touchdowns as the Cavemen defeated the Eagles 33-7. Eagle Point got off to a positive start when it recovered a squib kick on the opening kickoff around midfield. The Eagles drove down inside the Cavemen 25, but Lane intercepted Kyle Gray�s pass and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown. A successful fake punt ended up leading to a Hamada five-yard TD run later in the opening quarter. Eagle Point took advantage of some good luck of its own when Grants Pass snapped the ball over its punters� head and the Eagles recovered deep in Caveman territory. Gray scored from one-yard out to cut the deficit to 13-7. Late in the second quarter, Lane hauled in a 28-yard scoring pass from quarterback Nate Olson to give the Cavemen some breathing room. Grants Pass capitalized on a fumbled punt by the Eagles in the third quarter. It proved to be a back breaker when Hamada eventually scored on a one-yard run. "At that point it was still 19-7 and our defense had stopped them," said Eagle Point coach Mike Johnston. "We gave the ball right back. It was a little bit disheartening." Hamada led all rushers with 106 yards on 18 carries. "We didn�t finish him (Hamada) off when we had the chances," said Johnston. "We felt like we had people there a number of times, but he broke the tackle or made our guy miss. He�s a tough runner." The Eagles received a strong performance on both sides of the line by Blake Cam. "He put a lot of pressure on the quarterback," said Johnston.
