Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend July 12, 2005 Man fights off a pack of thieves An east Medford resident tangled with an intruder early Monday after he spotted some men trying to steal his motorcycle, police said. The 24-year-old man told police he was on the phone at about 2:20 a.m. when he saw shadows outside his home in the 200 block of East McAndrews Road. He went outside to find that four men were trying to take his Honda motorcycle from a nearby barn, said Medford Lt. Mike Moran. Two would-be thieves confronted the resident, and at least one of them engaged in a scuffle with the man before all four fled without the motorcycle. Investigators found blood at the scene and hope the public can help them locate the suspects, who Moran said could face charges of robbery, assault and attempted vehicle theft. The man who fought with the resident is described as being in his mid-20s. He stands about 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 240 pounds. "This person should be injured," Moran said, adding that police checked area hospitals Monday to see if a person matching the suspect’s description had sought treatment. Moran said some 15 reports of stolen ATVs were taken by Medford and Central Point police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department between March and May. The trend has police advising people to lock up their ATVs and motorcycles. Anyone with information about Monday’s incident on East McAndrews Road or any other thefts is asked to phone Medford police at 770-4783.
