Bars helped rally the Warriors to a 47-36 victory over Paisley in Skyline A League Southern Division girls basketball Saturday. The victory catapults New Hope (11-7, 6-2 Sky A) into a half-game lead over Paisley (11-4, 5-2 Sky A) for second place in the division. "It’s a pivotal win for us," said Smith. "It’s very encouraging we had support from our bench." Bars entered the game as a defensive replacement, but she also provided an offensive lift. Advertisement With leading scorer Laura Grush in foul trouble most of the game, Bars filled the void. Grush fouled out after scoring only five points. Bars scored all 11 of her points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter when the Warriors outscored the Broncos, 17-7. "I put (Bars) in to bird-dog them defensively," said Smith. "We were rotating our bench to find the right combination. She gave us the energy to pull it out." New Hope junior point guard Suzannah Carlino tallied a game-high 18 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Emily Morehouse tossed in 11 points and corralled 17 rebounds for the Warriors. The sophomore post also came up with five steals. "(Morehouse) is around the ball all the time," said Smith. BUTTE FALLS 69, HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 38 — At Klamath Falls, taking a cue from Hosanna’s defensive attention toward Sarah Matthews, Brianna Smeltz stepped up for Butte Falls in a big way with a game-high 26 points, four assists and three steals. Smeltz connected on 12 of 15 shots from the field, while Matthews fought off being double-teamed to score 14 points and pull down 16 rebounds for the Loggers (13-6, 7-1 Sky A). Rachel Matthews, a 5-9 freshman and younger sister of Sarah, added 14 points and seven rebounds for Butte Falls, while Holly Childers led Hosanna with 11 points. BUTTE FALLS (69) — Smeltz 26, S. Harrington also hauled in 17 rebounds to help the eighth-ranked Loggers to a 38-15 advantage on the boards.
