Raider netter Lytle to compete abroad Former Southern Oregon University volleyball All-American Erin Lytle is one of nine small-college standouts selected to a United States all-star team that will travel to Holland June 10-19. The team, assembled by USA Athletes International -- a non-profit amateur sports organization based in Olathe, Kan. -- is made up of standouts from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA schools from across the country. The squad will compete in two tournaments against national teams from northern Europe. Lytle is the only full-time setter making the trip. She completed her Raider career last November as the school's first Cascade Conference MVP and first-team NAIA All-American. Lytle is currently competing on the SOU track team as a sprinter and jumper. SOU coach McDermott to put on hoop clinic ASHLAND -- Southern Oregon University men's basketball coach Brian McDermott will put on a camp for boys entering grades 4-8 at Ashland Middle School July 17-21. Cost is $85 per individual. Those signing up by May 15 will receive a $10 discount. The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 1-3:30 p.m. each day. Offensive skills will be taught, including shooting, ballhandling, one-on-one moves and screening. Shooting and free-throw contests will be held, and defensive team concepts and skills will be stressed. McDermott has taken two losing programs and turned them into national title contenders.
