In Time’s ratings, the plays beat out Tony Kushner’s "Caroline, or Change," and Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning "Anna In the Tropics," among other high- profile plays. "Taking the big risk of producing two new, huge dramas has certainly come to fruition in the most positive way," OSF Artistic Director Libby Appel said. "We are delighted that David Edgar’s epic cycle of plays is receiving this recognition." Time called Edgar’s new work "a dense, sprawling pair of linked plays" and "nevertheless an enormously impressive effort ... ." In a feature in the current issue of Via, the AAA Traveler’s Companion, spotlighting the OSF, Appel is quoted as calling the commissioning of the plays by OSF "a pig in a poke." They will move to England in the spring of 2004, playing at Birmingham Repertory Theatre and London’s Barbican Theatre, marking the first international tour in either company’s history. Directed by Berkeley Rep Artistic Director Tony Taccone, the two plays, "Mothers Against" and "Daughters of the Revolution," will be presented in repertory at each theater, as they were at Ashland and Berkeley.
