Cascade wins SCL opener BONANZA Kristen Salamone provided Cascade Christian a needed spark during the Challengers 62-44 Southern Cascade League season-opening girls basketball victory over Bonanza Saturday. Despite scoring a game-high 18 points, Cascade senior forward Kelly Clarke continually drew a lot of attention from Bonanzas defense. So Salamone, a center promoted to the starting lineup when Jennifer Roos broke a hand earlier in the season, stepped up with 15 points. "She (Salamone) probably had the best game of her career," Cascade Christian coach Loren King said. "She has scored more points, but she had a well-balanced game with rebounding and defense. Shes starting to get into the flow, and it makes a difference." Salamone, a 5-foot-11 junior, and Clarke helped the Challengers dominate the boards. Cascade Christian (12-2, 1-0 SCL) received needed production off the bench against the Antlers. "Were getting a lot of points spread around, so its hard for them to key off any one person," said King. "When they double down on Kelly (Clarke), it gives us a chance to shoot some 3s." Thats what the Challengers did in the third quarter when they outscored Bonanza 24-10 and took control of the game. Rebekah Gettman connected on two 3-pointers early in the period and Caroline McCandless added another trey to. CASCADE CHRISTIAN (62) Clarke 18, Salamone 15, R. Gettman 8, Brookins 2, Kelley 5, H.
