Ashland man charged after random assault By JILL BRISKEY An Ashland resident who allegedly shouted "white power" while assaulting a Hispanic man in the parking lot of a Medford fast food restaurant Tuesday was arrested by police Thursday night. According to Medford Lt. Mike Moran, Keith Allen Hollensbe, a white man who lives at 873 Valley View Road, was arrested and lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of third-degree assault and first-degree intimidation. However, Moran said the Jackson County District Attorney's Office reduced the charges to fourth-degree assault. Hollensbe, 20, posted bail and was released Friday, according to a jail spokeswoman. The victim, a 20-year-old Phoenix resident, told police he was standing in the parking lot of Wendy's at 1920 N. Pacific Highway prior to the attack. Moran said Hollensbe pulled into the parking lot after he spotted the victim talking to another Hispanic man and the assault ensued. Police are investigating the role, if any, two unidentified white men who accompanied Hollensbe played in the assault. The case is under investigation, and charges against the other men may be pending. Moran said the phrase "white power" may have been used by Hollensbe during the assault. "We believe (the victim) was hit several times," Moran said. "The victim was kicked while he was on the ground." The two white men and Hollensbe - who stands 5-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds - left the scene and the victim quickly called police, Moran said. The victim did not sustain serious injuries and sought treatment on his own following the altercation, he added. The victim told police he did not know his attackers, and Moran said the attack appeared to have been unprovoked. "Race may have been a factor," he said. Medford's Gang, Street and Drug Unit was assigned to the case. Police were able to identify Hollensbe and located him at 7:27 p.m. Thursday in Medford.   Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
