Errorless Knights win opener, 4-0 MERLIN -- Never mind that Wednesday's non-conference baseball game was the season-opener for North Valley High. The Knights were in midseason form as they rolled to a 4-0 victory over visiting Myrtle Point. Brandon Keeling, Scott Butterbaugh, Luke Godfrey and Sam Jarrett combined on an eight-hit shutout as the Knights served noticed they will be a force in the Skyline Conference. "I was a little surprised that we played as well as we did, but we do have our entire infield back," said North Valley coach Mike Reese, whose team finished 14-11 last season. "We started six sophomores last year and it's a good group of kids." Keeling picked up the victory as the 6-foot-2 left-hander worked the first three innings and registered four strikeouts and no walks while giving up two hits North Valley got on the board in the second inning when Cory Pederson walked and Butterbaugh followed with an RBI double off the left-field fence. Justin Sullivan then singled home Butterbaugh. The Knights added a pair of insurance runs in sixth. After Jarrett and Godfrey both reached base on errors, Pedersen singled home Jarrett and Butterbaugh knocked in Godfrey with an RBI groundout.
