Crusaders clinch a tie for SCL title St. Marys boys basketball coach Tim Pflug told his team that he would bleach his hair if the Crusaders won the Southern Cascade League. With signs in the stands that read "Blondes have more fun," the Crusaders consummated their goal Tuesday night with a 59-44 victory over rival Cascade Christian. The victory secured St. Marys no worse than a tie for the SCL title and wrapped up a berth in the Class 2A state tournament for the second straight year. The Crusaders can clinch the SCL title outright with a win at Chiloquin on Friday. "I told the kids Ill bleach my hair but I also told them that sharing the league title is like eating a candy bar with the wrapper on it doesnt taste as good as it should," Pflug said. "Now we need to win Friday." Senior forward Chris Murphy tossed in 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and sophomore post Michael Fiddler added 14 points and seven blocked shots fro the Crusaders, who improved to 8-1 in the SCL and 17-4 overall. St. Marys jumped to a 17-8 lead after one period, but the Challengers pulled within 40-34 after three periods before the Crusaders pulled away. Stan Kelley paced Cascade Christian with 14 points.
