Gabby Sandoval was selected the Cascade Conference softball pitcher of the week on Monday for the second time this month after collecting two wins and two saves in a pair of Southern Oregon sweeps over the weekend. Sandoval — a junior from Anaheim, Calif., who last year set the Raiders’ single-season wins record by going 27-6 with a 2.07 ERA — is already 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA this season. In her third and fourth wins, both complete games, she allowed four hits and only an unearned run on Saturday against Menlo (Calif.) and gave up seven hits and three runs on Sunday against ninth-ranked Hope International (Calif.). She saved a pair of one-run wins, working a perfect seventh inning in Game 2 against Menlo and recording the last five outs in Game 2 against Hope. She didn’t give up a hit in either stint. Sandoval’s next win will be the 40th in her SOU career, a number only five other Raiders have reached. She’s seven away from taking over the No. 2 spot on the program’s career wins list. The third-ranked Raiders (8-1) added a doubleheader to their schedule, Friday at Notre Dame de Namur (Calif.). On Saturday, they’ll play two at William Jessup (Calif.).
