The device, similar to one discovered Friday at the credit union branch in Medford, consisted of a card reader installed over the ATM's card slot and a hidden camera intended to capture bank customers' personal identification numbers. Authorities said a similar device discovered in May at one of the branch's other ATMs compromised 30 accounts, leading to a loss of $40,000. Police called the device "sophisticated," saying it blended in well on the ATM and was difficult to detect. Police do not believe customers who used the ATM after the device was installed had their personal information compromised, because the device does not appear to transmit a signal. "The suspects would have had to remove the device to obtain the data," police said in a news release issued Monday. Suspects were caught on video installing the Medford device at 6:38 a.m. June 19, and the photos released Wednesday came from the Central Point location. "There are other types of skimming devices out there, and folks should pay attention to anything on the ATM that looks different or out of place," police said. "This activity is not isolated to Rogue Credit Union and is happening more frequently across all financial institutions nationwide. These recent examples are part of a growing national trend."
