Today in the News: Plane slips off snowy NY runway A Delta flight coming in for a landing slipped off a snowy runway at New York's LaGuardia International Airport earlier this morning, skidding through a fence and coming to a stop near the edge of the East River. Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 5, 2015 at 3:00 PM Posted Mar. 5, 2015 at 3:00 PM » Social News NEWS TO KNOW A Delta flight coming in for a landing slipped off a snowy runway at New York’s LaGuardia International Airport earlier this morning, skidding through a fence and coming to a stop near the edge of the East River. Officials reported that 24 of the 127 passengers aboard the plane suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and three were taken to local hospitals. The accident also caused a fuel leak, which firefighters worked to contain before the runways could be reopened. QUOTE OF NOTE “You are a coward. A little boy who wouldn't even look me in the eyes,” Boston Marathon bombing victim Rebekah Gregory wrote in an open letter on Wednesday night to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 21-year-old on trial for setting off the attack that killed three people in April 2013. Tsarnaev’s lawyer admitted her client is guilty during her opening statements on Wednesday, but said Tsarnaev was under the influence of his older brother, who masterminded the attack. MUST-SEE VIDEO: Ringling Bros. to eliminate elephant act Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus told The Associated Press this week that it will be ending the use of elephants in its shows by 2018. Executives from the circus’s parent company, Feld Entertainment, cited growing public concern over animal welfare as the cause for the change. Currently, the company owns the largest herd of Asian elephants in North America.
