At that point, the North Medford senior found himself 6-over par. But Barry finished with four straight birdies to post the low-round of the day with a 1-over-par 73. Barry leads Nick Nieto of South Medford and Graham Aviles of Roseburg by one stroke heading into today’s final round at the Grants Pass Golf Club. North Eugene grabbed the team lead with a 309 total and defending champion Roseburg is second, three shots back. Ashland stands third (314) and North Medford is fourth (318) in the nine-school field. Klamath Union is also competing, but has an incomplete team. "North Eugene has come down to the tournament the last few years but hasn’t done very well," North Medford coach Kevin Klabunde said. "They had a nice balanced team effort to propel them to the lead. Advertisement "We didn’t play very well so I’m a little disappointed with our performance," added Klabunde. "But golf is a funny game. You never know what is going to happen. You have to keep a positive mental outlook." Barry made the turn at 2-over on the par 36-36 Rogue Valley CC layout. After ballooning to 6-over, he rallied with five birdies over the last eight holes. "That was a great comeback on his part," said Klabunde. "He was hitting his driver extremely long and knocking the ball close to the hole. When you do that, the birdies come." Friday’s round was the second of seven rounds that count in the Southern Oregon Conference standings. Roseburg leads the conference race with a 616 total, followed by Ashland at 638. The Black Tornado is third (640). Today’s round at the Grants Pass GC will also count in the league standings. S.O.
