Film depicts Shasta tribe's struggle to bring fish back By Daily Tidings staff report Oct 21, 2014 12:00 AM A A The film "Dancing Salmon Home," an award-winning documentary that follows the Winnemem Wintu tribe's struggle to return salmon to the McCloud River near their Mount Shasta-area homeland, will be screened at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way. Wintu Chief and Spiritual Leader Caleen Sisk and filmmaker Will Doolittle will speak and take questions. Roasted buffalo and light appetizers, beverages and dessert will be served. A raffle will be held for a Pendleton blanket. The evening is hosted by Red Earth Descendants , a grassroots, indigenous-based organization committed to creating healthy, sustainable community while preserving Native values, traditions and culture. Admission is on a sliding scale $15 to $25. All proceeds benefit the Winnemem Wintu people. Call 541-622-5358 or email [email protected] for reservations.
