Public invited to review designs for proposed Peter Britt Gardens JACKSONVILLE -- An arbor house built in Gothic revival style. A horticulture exhibit. Old-fashioned children's toys. The public can view designs for a proposed park called Peter Britt Gardens that could include some of these elements and more during a presentation at 1 p.m. Saturday at Old City Hall. Landscape architect David Jacquat will show sketches and plans of the project, followed by a walking tour, in an effort to get people interested in the project. Park plans call for building an arbor house using architectural themes of the original home of Peter Britt, Jacksonville pioneer, photographer and naturalist. The garden house could be used for weddings or other ceremonies. Besides samples of 19th-century architecture, the park would include outdoor toys for children, gardens and plant exhibits. "Peter Britt was a horticulturist who introduced a lot of vegetation into the Rogue Valley, including pears and grapes," said Paul Wyntergreen, city administrator. The city's park commission has held presentations in the past to collect public comment about designs for Peter Britt Gardens. When final designs and cost estimates are complete and the City Council approves the project, the city will seek grants, donations or other funding and then collect bids for construction.
