Perry Sr. Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 16, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted Mar. 16, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News Richard Perry, Central Point, Ore., passed away peacefully March 11, 2016, at his home with the endearing help of Providence Home Care and Hospice, and close family by his side. Richard was born May 25, 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Alfred and Margaret Perry. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947 and served two tours in the Korean War. After the war he served as hospital administrator for Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu and Letterman Army Hospital in San Fransisco. He retired from the Army in 1968 with numerous commendations and the rank of Master Sergeant. He met the love of his life, Cecilia Pimento, in 1952 and the two were married on November 28, 1953. On their first anniversary they welcomed their first son, Richard W. Perry, Jr., and two years later they welcomed their second son, Stephen. Richard and Cecilia celebrated 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Upon his retirement from the Army, Richard and his family moved to Central Point, where they built the family’s ranch. He also worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1990. He was involved in various clubs and associations, was past VFW Post President in Hawaii, and was also the current president of the Hawaii Hui Club of Oregon. In addition, he was a member of the Eagles Camping Club and the EDGE & TA - Branch 41 tractor club. Richard loved family and adored children. He enjoyed woodworking and making toy cars, planes, and birdhouses to give away to children of family, friends, and to community organizations. He is survived by sons, Richard W. Perry, Jr. (Kela) of Central Point, Stephen Perry (Gail) of Haleiwa, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Brian Perry (Whitney) of Portland, Ore., Lindsy Weseman (Trent) of Parkdale, Ore., Theresa Perry (Austin) of Seattle, Wash., and Vincent Perry (Katelynn) of Seattle, Wash.; and three great grandchildren, Harper, Gillian, and Colin. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth and sister, Gladys. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at the VA Domiciliary Chapel in White City, followed by his interment at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Reception to follow at the VA Domiciliary Chapel Recreation Hall. In lieu of flowers Richard’s wish was that donations be sent to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
