High speed investigated as cause of fatal wreck A 27-year-old Jacksonville man died late Friday night in a single-vehicle accident on Sterling Creek Road. According to Sgt. John Atkins of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Kirk Dennis Radford, 27, was driving a 1997 Toyota pickup west at 11:10 p.m. when the wreck happened. Atkins said Radford was returning from a trip to Arizona, and that no other passengers were on board. Radford, who lived in the 5000 block of Sterling Creek Road, approached milepost 4 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the pickup. Atkins, who could not provide specific details, said Radford's pickup rolled and collided into a clump of trees. Radford was not wearing his seat belt. "All the indicators are possibly pointing at speed," Atkins said. Applegate fire crews helped sheriff's deputies at the scene. The case remains under investigation.
