Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 3, 2006 Baylee Jade Tiller was born to Kristi and Dustin Tiller of Central Point at 3:36 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, at Providence Medford Medical Center. County’s first baby of 2006 arrived Sunday By SARAH LEMON Mail Tribune The party is just beginning for Baylee Jade Tiller. Jackson County’s first baby of 2006 arrived fashionably late at 3:36 p.m. Sunday at Providence Medford Medical Center. Reveling Monday in her parents’ attention, Baylee will hobnob through her first few years with customers at Gotta Party, her grandmother’s party supply store, where new mother Kristi Tiller also works. "Everybody’s really excited," Tiller said. "She definitely came in with a bang." Tiller, 21, and her 23-year-old husband, Dustin Tiller, said they didn’t think their 7-pound-4-ounce daughter would be in the running for the title of New Year’s baby. The Medford couple stayed up after midnight Sunday to watch festivities broadcast from New York City’s Times Square. They got about two hours of sleep before Kristi Tiller went into labor. In Grants Pass, five infants delivered before 7 a.m. Sunday at Three Rivers Community Hospital received much of the New Year’s Day fanfare before Providence staff verified that Baylee was the first child born in Jackson County. "They were all excited," Tiller said. "They were checking all the other hospitals to make sure she was the first (in Jackson County)." As Providence’s first baby of 2006, Baylee received gifts from the hospital guild, including a handmade quilt and a hand-knit sweater and cap. Her welcome basket also was packed with "onesies" (an infant T-shirt that buttons over a diaper), a receiving blanket, a Target gift card, a Providence teddy bear — and chocolates for mom. But bundled in a yellow sleeper with pink flowers and bows, Baylee was all the pick-me-up that Tiller needed Monday. "Everything was perfect ... much better than I expected," Tiller said. Baylee debuted right on her due date, healthy and content with a wealth of strawberry-blond hair that promised to someday match her mother’s copper-colored ponytail. "We’re hoping she’s going to be a redhead," Tiller said.
