Phoenix drops North Valley MERLIN � Phoenix made quick work of North Valley, 15-6, 15-4, avenging its three-game home loss to the Knights earlier this season. The Pirates (17-7 overall, 6-4 Skyline) used nine aces and 15 North Valley hitting errors to their advantage. Phoenix senior outside hitter April Darby slammed nine kills and was 8-for-8 from the service line with four aces. Junior setter Kelsey Russell dished 21 assists, and junior middle hitter Tiffany Ross contributed seven kills and three blocks. "If we want to control our own destiny and lock up that third spot in the Skyline, this was a necessary step for us," said Phoenix coach Tom Murphy. "We just had a very efficient night." The Knights (10-7, 5-5) got seven digs from senior outside hitter Nicole Roberts, two blocks from sophomore middle hitter Elaina Renius and three aces from senior outside hitter Elizabeth Seybold. "We couldn�t pass very well, and we just didn�t execute," North Valley coach Shannon Skirvin said. HENLEY 15-15, ROGUE RIVER 8-11 � At Klamath Falls, Rogue River jumped to a 5-0 lead in Game 1 and a 4-1 lead in Game 2 but couldn�t keep momentum against the No. 1-ranked team in the state. Sam Young led Henley (23-2, 9-0 Skyline) with 10 kills, while Stacey Maupin added seven. Katherine Stock chipped in 23 assists for the Hornets. ILLINOIS VALLEY 15-14-15, HIDDEN VALLEY 11-16-9 � At Cave Junction, the Cougars managed an early lead in Game 3 and took advantage of Hidden Valley�s service woes to pull out the victory. Tannis Kearney had 12 kills and five digs and Krista Hudson added eight digs to pace the Mustangs (1-11, 0-10 Skyline). Keely Gill chipped in eight digs and three kills for Hidden Valley, while Laura miller had 13 assists. Southern Cascade League CASCADE CHRISTIAN 15-15, LOST RIVER 4-8 � Senior setter Whitney Brookins had 42 assists and was 13-of-13 serving with two aces to lead top-ranked Cascade Christian to a win. Krystle Holtz had five kills and three digs, while Janee Johnson added eight digs. Teammate Sheena McNeill had five digs and Kristin Salamone was a perfect 8-for-8 from the service line with two aces. The Challengers improved to 19-1 overall and 7-0 in Southern Cascade League play. ST. MARY�S 15-15, BONANZA 7-1 � Junior middle Christina Vaninetti registered eight kills and four digs and junior setter Melissa Anderson contributed eight digs and 16 assists to propel St. Mary�s to the Southern Cascade League victory. The Crusaders, the No. 8-ranked Class 2A team, also got three digs and three assists from sophomore Brittany Lawson as they improved to 6-1 in SCL action and 12-6 overall. Skyline A League NORTH LAKE 15-15, PROSPECT 11-9 � At Silver Lake, North Lake�s frontline, led by junior outside hitters Staci Collins and Heather Roby, overpowered Prospect. North Lake, which improved to 7-2 in the Skyline A South Division, never trailed in the match.
