Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 20, 2006 Man arrested in sexual abuse case By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune Police believe a 29-year-old Medford man sexually abused a 6-month-old child who lived with her father in a home for recovering drug addicts. Justin Trevor Humber, of the 600 block of South Holly Street, was lodged late Thursday in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful sexual penetration, criminal mistreatment and felony assault. Humber lived with the infant and her father at the Holly House, a transitional home recovering drug addicts. The child’s father cooperated with detectives during the investigation, Medford police said in a news release. "We believe the infant’s injuries were caused when Humber was watching the baby," Medford police Det. Sgt. Tim Doney said. Humber was not related to the infant. The child remained in foster care locally Thursday, police said. Advertisement A ward of the state, the infant girl was living with her father at Holly House after being referred there by OnTrack Inc., a drug treatment program. A child care provider at an OnTrack program for mothers in recovery reported the suspected abuse Jan. 11 to child welfare workers, who called the police, officials said. The 27-year-old father had to leave Holly House because of the continuing investigation and eligible residents must have children in their care to live there, police said. Humber was one of three OnTrack Dads Program graduates living in the house at the time of the alleged abuse. They lived there with their children, all under the age of 5. Medford police were unable to be reached for comment as to whether any of the other children are suspected of being sexually abused. Detectives were assisted in the investigation by Department of Human Service workers and Children’s Advocacy Center medical staff.
