Gary was born August 25, 1939 in Evanston, Wyo. to Clark and Della Young. Gary had two siblings Linda Dell and Kelly John Young. Gary graduated from Beaverton High School, joined the National Guard, then went to work for Portland Electric and Plumbing. He was married for a short time and had a daughter, Kristen. The marriage ended in divorce. Gary continued to enjoy his hobbies, fishing, gold dredging, and raising his daughter, Kristen. While working for Portland Electric and Plumbing, Gary met Charlene (Vikki) and they married July 20, 1974 sharing the next 41 years together. On May 25, 1976, they had a daughter, Jennifer Lynn, who quickly learned what a gentle soul her dad had and soon they became great buddies, sharing their love of animals and the outdoors. In 1977, Gary and Charlene (Vikki) moved to Southern Oregon. Gary was deeply devoted to his family, he showed that each day putting a Jonathon apple on Jennifer's car before school. When Jennifer was young, most weekends were spent camping, fishing, mining for gold, or going to a school football game. He was a wonderful man with a smile that won't soon be forgotten. Gary loved dogs and always had one, two, or three. In Gary's eyes, there were no bad dogs, just bad owners. In 2001, Gary retired from Platt Electric due to the onset of Parkinson's disease. He was saddened to leave the place where he had so many friends in the electric field. Gary was preceded in death by his father; mother; and daughter, Jennifer. He is survived by his wife Charlene (Vikki); daughter, Kristen (Ron) of Gold Hill; sister, Linda (Ron) Mortensen of Lake Oswego; brother Kelly (Sherry) Young of Grants Pass; Jennifer's ex-husband and our son, Paul Johnson, who has been there for the last two years by helping with the care of Gary; and three grandchildren. After Jennifer's death, grandchildren Kaitlynn and Jacob Johnson lived with Gary and Charlene (Vikki). Gary felt so blessed to have had them live with us and share our lives. Gary, you may be gone. But you will never be forgotten! Per Gary's wishes, no service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society.
