Kennedy fuels Mustangs to victory BROOKINGS -- Quarterback Matt Kennedy passed for five touchdowns and ran for one more as eighth-ranked Hidden Valley outscored Brookings-Harbor 42-28 in non-conference football Friday. Kennedy hooked up with his two favorite receivers -- Ryan Wilson and Dereck Horning -- for two touchdown passes apiece. Hidden Valley jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Bruins answered on touchdown runs of 42 and 1 yards by Matt Overland to slice the Mustangs' lead to 21-15. Kennedy connected with Wilson on a 45-yard scoring strike to give Hidden Valley a 28-15 halftime lead. Overland accounted for all of Brookings' touchdowns -- three on runs and a 59-yard pass to Matt Taylor. With Vie carrying the ball, the host Red Devils used the option play for several big gains and injury-riddled Rogue River generated little offense in losing for the second time in as many games. Rogue River's three starting receivers -- Jesse Smith, Rick Shamblin and Ryan Woodall -- missed the game with injuries. Without that trio, the Chiefs' run-and-shoot offense never got untracked. Thede connected with Jeremy Axel for touchdown of 60 and 70 yards, while Greg Conover rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns for the Hornets (2-0).
